You’ve written a novel. Good on you!! But no matter how hard you try, there is not a period or comma in sight. Hmm… that could be a problem! Send it to Kari! She can help make your story sing! But each project may need a different level of her help…

Proofreading: This is the fastest and easiest for Kari to do. She’ll find those elusive periods and commas; she’ll lasso the Oxford Comma and bring it back into place (or banish it from town if it’s not necessary); she’ll make sure you don’t embarass yourself wid pooor spelsings and arkaic or superfurius language… Ha! Catch all my mistakes? That’s because Kari didn’t proof it!!

(Yes, I see you there in the corner, drooling, Kari. Go ahead…)

[She’ll make sure you don’t embarrass yourself with poor spellings and archaic or superfluous language.]

                                                                         (Feel better? You’re welcome.)

Proofreading is just making it all look pretty and allowing it to be read easily. It’s cosmetic, if you will. Nothing in-depth. She won’t help you with your character development, the plot, the flow… but at least you won’t get called out on the basics like spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

Copy Editing: This is the next step up in terms of time spent on your project by Kari. She’ll not only proofread it and correct mistakes of grammar and spelling, but also catch glaring issues like flow, character descriptions (Why does he have grey hair in chapter 4 and red hair in chapter 7?), and perhaps re-structuring your paragraphs and/or chapters.

Content Editing: This is the heavy hitter in the bunch! It’s all the above and so much more. Kari will make suggestions for changes – perhaps even offering suggestions by rewriting your sentence herself (which will be in the comment section). No, you don’t have to use it, but it gives you an idea of what she’s trying to convey. You can then rewrite it in your own unique voice if you like the idea.

Proofreading prices are dependent on the level of help you need and can be negotiated as an hourly or a flat rate. Kari can also schedule meetings with you throughout the process so she can explain her suggestions. The goal is always to make you a better writer! She won’t insist on anything; she can only recommend.

Even at the basic level, Kari will do a minimum of three passes to ensure she catches EVERYTHING! She’s not perfect, she just tries harder.
