WRITING
Kari’s mom always told her: “I wish you’d do something with your writing!” So she did. Sure, she’s written lots of stuff over the years but it’s scary to put it out into the world – for, like, OTHERS to read (can you hear her gulping in the background?). Here’s hoping she does more of it; her mom would be so proud! Frank Norris…or was it George R.R. Martin? Or wait, maybe it was Dorothy Parker… ONE of them – or ALL of them – were quoted as saying: “I don’t like to write. I like having written.” (She’s nodding her head; yep, it’s what she says too. Oh jeez…she’s getting dramatic now. You should see her! She’s sprawled out on the sofa like a Victorian woman with the “vay-pors.” (You read that word like you had a thick Southern accent, right?)
(Come on, don’t be such a drama queen!)
Yes, I’ll tell them… Kari says writing is fun, but hard work. When it’s over and comes out the way the author intended… WHAT A FEELING! (At least that’s what she’s saying behind me as she pokes me with her number 2 pencil.
Yeah, I heard you. Quit it now, will ya?!)
Anyway, where was I? Oh yeah… Here’s hoping Kari finds the courage to keep doing it.
(No, I did not steal your notes. Ask that cat of yours, he hides everything. You know he does! Yes, I’ll make lunch – that was our agreement, wasn’t it? You write and I talk to all these people out there – try to make you sound intelligent and clever and feed you so you don’t get worn out, poor thing. It’s exhausting! Hey! Don’t you throw that number 2 pencil at me, missy! Ok, ok! I’m going! Tuna and egg salad sandwiches again? You got it, boss!)
